Heh... Books (specially English, non-fiction books) are awfully expensive in Belgium. However, we managed to buy Goedel-Escher-Bach by Hofstadter for € 20. Also, Spanish books are relatively cheap, so I can read my favorite Arturo Pérez-Reverte in Spanish without pangs of conscience.:)
Well, I haven't used Spanish for quite a long time, so the first twenty--thirty pages were very hard---I was reading very slowly. It may somehow connected with the fact that Perez-Reverte has a tremendously rich language. But now I have noticed the speed has increased. Of course, it's not the halve as fast as I read in English (not to mention Polish), but in the view of Belgian prices it is good news :-)
Indeed -- I'm using Dutch to ration myself in the same way.
Here also. Good price for *GEB* though. I'm oh-so-slowly working towards being able to read Spanish, but it's a long way away yet, alas.
