China Miéville has a new book coming out.

In stores four days before my birthday.

Not that I’m hinting at anything, you understand.1

For those who don’t like spoilers, there’s a post on Suvudu with some details, plus video of the author not giving away the central conceit. For those who like spoilers, Publisher’s Weekly lets the cat out of the bag completely. Those who want to avoid spoilers should note that the Publishers Weekly review gets excerpted on plenty of sales pages (Powells and Amazon, for instance).

Update: I bought it on its release date (fanboy that I am) and just finished reading. Man I wish it hadn’t been spoiled. Miéville does a lovely job of easing you gently into his exceedingly odd landscape, piling on the offhand remarks that don’t quite make sense and (this I found impressive) never doing the “By now you know something weird is going on; here’s what it is” infodump. I most heartily recommend reading this without knowing what it’s about, if you can possibly manage it.

Notes:

  1. Griceans take note: I’m flouting Quality here, but not Relevance earlier on. Honestly. []
